"Oil in a chewing gum?" It's a fair question. Here's what MCT oil actually does in the mouth, why it's different from oil pulling, and why we made it a deliberate part of the RevitaBite formulation.
What MCT oil actually is
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides — caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10), derived from coconut oil but concentrated. They're antimicrobial against several oral bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans, the primary cavity-causing bacterium. Peer-reviewed studies have demonstrated reductions in S. mutans colonization when MCTs are applied to the oral environment. The mechanism is disruption of bacterial cell membranes.
Oil pulling vs. MCT as an ingredient
Oil pulling — swishing coconut oil for 20 minutes — has some evidence behind it, but a lot of mystical marketing that isn't warranted. The underlying antimicrobial mechanism is real. The compliance problem isn't: nobody actually does it for 20 minutes a day. MCT oil as a formulation ingredient sidesteps that — small, consistent, targeted exposure carried by chewing into the spaces where biofilm forms.
Why we included it
I wanted more than one mechanism working in RevitaBite. Nano-hydroxyapatite handles remineralization. Xylitol starves cavity bacteria. MCT oil disrupts bacteria already present. Three mechanisms, one gum.
What it doesn't do
It's not a miracle ingredient. It won't reverse gum disease or whiten teeth. The dose in a piece of gum is small — which is why it's one layer in a formulation, not the whole story.
FAQ
Isn't coconut oil high in saturated fat? The amount in a piece of gum is nutritionally negligible. This is about antimicrobial properties.
Does RevitaBite taste like coconut? No. The MCT oil is a small functional ingredient, not a flavor carrier.
Why not just oil pull? You can. Most people won't do it consistently. Gum after meals is more realistic.
